Just to say in a quite rare case of algorithmic success I’ve been led to and enjoying the Emo Diaries compilation series…which commence in the mid to late 90s…its better than the title may have you believe and worth checking out…though I imagine many have already

Those old Deep Elm comps are the best. The quality of them is so high because they chose the songs using a blind submission process.

There are some gems on those. I can’t remember which particular volume it is, but Spy Versus Spy’s Set The Spokes Alight is pretty great, all the more so because they probably recorded less than 20 songs all in all.

In fact, I seem to remember that even back then when a lot of the bands on those comps were active it was really hard to find any information about them if you liked their stuff…most of the comps came out even before Myspace was a thing!

Thanks Abe (and Braintrust) and agree…trying to back-catalogue the artists whose tracks I particularly like for further investigation is proving an intriguing affair - with many of the artists having no other stream-able content.

Not totally sure how I feel about the new song, sounds a bit of a mess on first listen but think it’ll probably grow. Regardless, new TWIABP is great news, the last two full lengths have both been really special records.

I barely listened to the last TWIABP, I don’t know why. Definitely should revisit soon.

Caught up on this thread over the weekend. Loved the Cloakroom album from that list.

I fucking love that song so much

This thread has introduced me to the Smith Street Band and I can now either die happy or stay alive and love them forever.
