Hang on wasn’t Change UK already a thing?
Vote Change UK, the party that believes Britain should remain the same as it currently is.
Can’t believe they’ve landed on a more focus-grouped name than what they had.
That is a very fair point indeed.
My only hope can be that there’s nothing inherent in Scotland that would cause more or less exclusionary stuff. Just gotta hope that a fair and open democratic discourse would limit any swelling of that patter.
I think you’re thinking of United for Change, which was another New Centrist Party
edit: was planning to launch properly after Brexit, must be gutted
Going to keep an eye out to see which Lib Dem tries to snipe the trade mark registration this time.

Please take me back baby, I can Change (UK)
Self determination is such an opaque concept. I don’t think it actually means anything substantive whatsoever in the context that it’s generally found, i.e. in relation to the liberal democratic state, a Liberal rights-based framework, etc. It’s just another way for liberal political theory to tell us that liberalism, and not socialism, produces freedom. And as such it ultimately serves to obscure material class interests that are undermined by the capitalism that is supported by liberal-nationalism
Ahh that’s it. Second verse same as the first.
Fully on board with people not from Scotland still debating the issues around Scottish independence - why not, free country, and I love talking shit about English issues that are hundreds of miles away from me, so I can’t begrudge anyone else doing the same.
Would just say that it seems there’s one group (as a general statement, not about anyone specific here) where the discussion is much more about the theoretical value or importance of nationalism and independence, whereas for the other group it’s something that will affect the very nature and structure of the countries we are living in. Neither are lesser or greater, just that it’s a debate that takes place on different levels at times.

Someone on SA pointed out that their acronym is CUK. We’re the CUKs!
There’s a pretty good chance I will spend a huge portion of my life living in Scotland
Independence from Britain is now (checks notes) Tory.
I doubt I’ll ever go to Scotland but I don’t think that changes the validity of what I’m saying
Fair play, was trying to take it away from the individual so as just to focus on the divide between theoretical vs. lived that does crop up in this discussion at times. Obviously for some people the issue can easily straddle both categories.
kinda is isn’t it? The concept that people should only be concerned with things that directly affect them
like if all of the UK was equal and doing well and was lovely for everyone would the case for independence be the same?
