Feel like particularly Deerhunter, Courtney Barnett and maybe Mitski could headline over the ones they’ve actually gone with, but then I always have a warped sense of the relative popularity/pulling power of bands
There is potential for the good bands to headline the Garden Stage which would make an excellent sub-festival, and we can all forget about Adele man, a kids band, a band who were last good in 1997, and errr, Beirut.
Nope, though the bigger acts (not just headliners) tend not to play both. Already I’ve noticed a few (PIGS, Bodega, Squid) are playing both GM and EOTR this year.
Don’t rate this lineup - sure the undercard’s decent but not one interesting headliner for me. Always preferred Green Man (better beer, bit more psychedelic atmosphere, later nights, less twee for me, more interesting landscape) but usually prefer the EOTR lineup so I’m ok with the way it’s turned out so far.
Same sentiments here. Not impressed by headliners. The interesting thing is who is headlining Garden Stage.
For me the whole day hinges on looking forward to seeing someone I love play a headline set. If Deerhunter were headlining Garden Stage that would be good.
But if Kiwanuka is Sat night and I’m not even slightly interested, it’s not a good time to be drunk and just hanging around.
Beak, Avery and Let’s Eat Grandma in the Big Top would be fun.
I’d guess Kiwanuka will do Sunday night. Imagine Low, Deerhunter +1 will be Garden Stage headliners. Jarvis and Courtney to play pre headline slots on Woods (would like them to do Garden, but think they’d draw too big a crowd)
I think the new Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers thing could be added after they sell out their UK tour. Not quite Garden Stage Headliners? Unless they encore with Bright Eyes songs!
Undercard is expectional. Would see all of spiritualized, jarvis, Deerhunter, Sleaford mods, parquet courts, low, mitski, Baxter Dury, Daniel, avery, wire, beak, goat girl, yves tumor, serpentwithfeet, nubya garcia, ata kak, Steve gunn, black midi, moses boys, squid, Fontaines dc, viagra boys, pigs x7, crack cloud, BCNR, the murder capital
More I look at it, there’s more there that I’d like to see than last year, which I thought was a great lineup. Think it’s just the lack of a standout headliner that’s making things seem a bit muted. Us all hoping/expecting Sleater Kinney was always a bit overambitious given they’ve not announced anything at all, and was all based on one twitter post.
Yep, seems like people are focusing way too much on the headliners! As disappointing as they are (though I actually think that Michael Kiwanuka is far better than most on here seem to be giving him credit for), the rest of the line-up is probably the most eclectic that EOTR has ever had. There’s a load of great jazz (Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd Exodus, Nérija), heavy psych (Pigs x7, Kikagaku Moyo), electronic/ambient (Daniel Avery, Yves Tumor), ‘world’ music (BCUC, Ata Kak) and a nice smattering of post-punk (Wire, Crack Cloud, Fontaines D.C.).
I’m personally pretty delighted with the way it’s turned out.
Does seem to have been met with a bit of a collective “meh”. There’s plenty to love, and the setting is possibly the best in the UK for a festival but truth be told I’m glad I’ve given it a miss. I think we were spoilt with the Sufjan year.
I think the Sufjan year was the last one I was excited about, but this is the first initial line-up I’ve liked in a while. Would like to see Beirut, Jarvis, Low, Let’s Eat Grandma, Angelo De Augustine, Kathryn Joseph, Gia Margaret, Rozi Plain. Will investigate the others I don’t know, along with whoever gets announced later.
