James is fit for Norway, so Spence will be out only fit right back for the semi if we get there (Konsa can play there in a pinch, has done plenty of times)

Slightly sappy post, but it’s becoming clearer and clearer why the FA went for an Anglophile German for the head coach rather than someone English. Sometimes it takes an admirer from slightly outside to point out all the things that make your national team/the footballing nation as a whole so great, because left to ourselves we wrap it up in irony, doubt and sabotage. Basically, he loves England more than 99% of it’s inhabitants.

Was having a chat with pals about it feels like quite an English England team. Bellingham, Rice, Anderson as three big powerful midfielders, no tippy tappy nonsense. Little fast lads on the wings who want to get at a full back and stick crosses into a village idiot striker. Think Tuchel immediately fancying Bellingham and Rogers over Foden and Palmer shows it’s somewhat intentional.
There was a bit of existential crisis when we were complete shit in the Roy era of trying to produce Spanish style players, but seems like we’ve been able to produce English style players who are a bit more suited to the modern game. I say up yours, Senors. Meat pie, sausage roll, come on England, score a goal!

Completely agree, and it’s totally intentional based on comments that Tuchel has made about style. Unfortunately, all it will take is England going out to a team who dominate possession for that argument about “producing better technical players” to make an unwanted comeback.
Was trying to think of the closest club equivalent in terms of style and think I’ve landed on Newcastle 2024-25.
Three big horrible bastards in midfield, two of them also incredible technically, the other covering a ludicrous amount of ground. Princess Diana on one wing, someone quick with good delivery on the other. One of the best finishers in the world who also wants to drop in and link play
