Enigma

My mum only bought three or so albums in the 1990s. These were the first three Enigma albums.

The debut is seared into my brain, but listening back now, it’s just sex music isn’t it?

Explains why mum and dad had a cassette version by their bed too.

Got memories of walking around Christchurch town centre with my best mate, who kept doing daft impressions of the chorus of this

doubt if i’ve ever heard more than just that single but gotta say this sorta 90s dodgy new age rave kinda thing is right up my street at the minute, gonna have a listen to the LP

The big hit was literally about/named after the Marquis de Sade’s sex people, it not being a sex thing would have been more surprising.

The debut is definitely the best of theirs. The second and third veer too much into naff anthemic pop.

my word the led zeppelin samples lol

My dad still doesn’t understand what a sample is.

He’s heard the DJ Shadow album too. Tried to explain it but just couldn’t get through.

does he think ozzy osbourne and robert plant were in the studio? it’s stacked actually, look at that lineup

It’s very unlikely he’d recognise any of those songs.

And I don’t think they listened to the second Enigma album anywhere near as much as the first. Although, that might have rock samples too?

Once heard the first album in the waiting room for an STI clinic and now forever associate it with having to stick a cotton swab here there and everywhere. Thanks.

My mum had an enigma/sacred spirit/deep forest phase so used to play those quite a lot

Somewhere
Deep in the jungle
Are living some little men and women
They are our past
And maybe
Maybe they are our future…

Always thought this was Enya for some reason.
