It’s the same as the handball rule innit. An 80% chance of a goal feels disproportionate. In the middle of midfield that’s absolutely always given, as are most accidental handball, because the punishment feels a lot fairer.
Think VAR is maybe exposing a problem with the penalty area as an issue, as previously refs would use their discretion to ignore clear fouls that didn’t feel right to punish with a pen, if that makes sense
