Without wanting to labour on the point too much, it’s a genuine headscratcher for me that anyone would claim Belgium have a weaker squad than England. I’ve heard plenty of decent pundits say Belgium have the very best squad in Europe. I don’t wholly agree with that, I’d say France and Portugal edge them in terms of depth and overall attacking quality, respectively.

Citing two or three average squad players doesn’t make a great deal of sense. Belgium do look a little stale at the back, but they have about five legitimately world-class players, and nobody could claim that about England unless they were on the wind-up.

And obviously Belgium have beaten England quite routinely several times over recent seasons.

Kind of does when you were talking specifically about the squads…
Agree with you that there’s not much between the starting line ups when fully fit but there’s a huge gap between the strength in depth of the squads, which makes a big difference across a tournament.

Not sure which other bits to respond to cos I struggle to distinguish between anti-bants and actual opinions sometimes but Mertens is 34 and isn’t world class anymore and could say the same about Hazard even when he’s fit to play

Really don’t think anyone has the strength of depth in terms of attack as us. Foden, Sancho and Rashford are world class players.

I don’t think there are squads that are tangibly better than us even if they maybe have a stronger first 11. Even then I’m not convinced. I think the unity we have in our squad is really powerful as well. Not wigs off like Portugal and France
