It’s hypocritical not to, but the World Cup is my favourite thing in the world and it’s the last one with the correct format and I am a weak man. Won’t be getting a single penny of my money, but I’ll be watching.

Really didn’t see Rice being notably leggy in the second half. :man_shrugging:

I’ll be spending a lot of the build up sincerely intending to boycott it. Then Saudi Arabia will be playing Uruguay at 2pm on a Thursday and

I think if players are able to express themselves then fan engagement will be valuable, but I think if FIFA prohibits the rainbow for example then it will be a strong case for boycotting.

Remember the day wen it was Croatia 3 Spain 5 and France 3 Switzerland 3??

One of the best days in my footballing life.

Probably not but, with it being in the winter and I believe lower league football is continuing (was the rumour last I heard that was about 2 years ago though) might be easier to avoid.

I’m struggling to find decent articles on this tbh. Obviously lots from Amnesty, HRW, ILO etc. documenting the violations, calling for action etc.

But I would like to find out more about what migrant workers associations are asking people to do. Anyone got any good stuff to read?

Like the position of the ITUC seems to be that the reforms this has helped bring about are sufficient A new dawn for migrant workers in Qatar - International Trade Union Confederation

I don’t like that at all…everyone will just start hoofing it at the goal

dreadful suggestions tbf. What happened to the golden goal? Simple and often effective.

This, basically, but I’m going to try to properly claim I’ll boycott it so that when it comes to next December, I’ll have practised it enough.

Reckon Saudi Arabia might be able to beat Uruguay, though.

Commendatori!

How many times did golden goal decide it? I can only really think of the 96 final where it happened and I think there is another one but, I can’t remember the details.

Trezeguet in 2000…haven’t thought about this too much though and I’m sure there’s a reason they canned it.

Pub I was watching in had the match on a projector in the beer garden playing from RTÉ Player, but the bar inside had it on a smaller screen on the actual telly so it was a couple of minutes ahead. During extra time a 10 year old kid came running out from the bar and convinced everyone in the beer garden that England had scored, everyone groaned and were glued to the screen for the next two minutes before realising he was on the wind up. Really well executed gag tbfttl.

Teams would rather take their chance on penalties than commit players forward and risk losing, so it didn’t lead to much attacking. It might work better if you removed penalties altogether and told them they would play until one scored (an extra sub allowed every 15 minutes for eternity).

Reassuringly good bit of mischief that tbh. The kids are alright.

Bit of amateur psychology here but I think Saka should have started and been subbed, if he was going to be used at all. In previous games he clearly wasn’t phased by the occasion and just playing it like another game, when he came on it was clear he was aware of the scale of the occasion having watched it play out to that point, and it made him nervous. Made it even more stupid to put him in the five penalty takers.

That said he wasn’t actually that bad, and did a few good things. He just misplaced one pass and a couple of his runs weren’t timed properly cos he was too hesitant.

(just protecting my boy)
