Six horses on display today, all of them dark. But which ones will emerge triumphant into the light?
Aware I’m going to be on the end of a very funny and very, very whimsical one liner here, but I don’t think France are dark horses.
Romania v Ukraine is gonna be a stinker
Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning
Disappointing.
Finally some good teams are playing, goals galore
Thirty years today since the most important cultural moment in modern football history, the Diana Ross penalty to mark the opening of USA '94.
Just realised we’ll get to see Ralf Rangnick in action tonight

Pretty telling.
Can only think that either Foden was following instruction given who was behind him, or saw his arse at being plonked out on the wing (less likely). Don’t remember him ever having so little impact on a game, though.
I keep hearing people say he’s a system player, but in City’s last four title wins he’s played one season on the left, one on the right, one as a number ten, and one as a striker, and been one of our very best players every time. He’s probably England’s most versatile player. Just don’t buy that he can’t play from the left.
I see Jude Bellingham has got the Lib Dems bar chart people on his PR team
The first 2pm I’m able to watch and it’s Romania Ukraine ffs
Think we massively missed shaw down the left. Not his fault but Trippier doesn’t give any threat wide on that side. Think there’s a solid tactical argument for playing Gordon over Foden if we’ve got a right footed left back, hope Shaw is back for the important games
Bellingham & Foden is the new Gerrard & Lampard
they can’t play together
Also, Kane was so shite yesterday & Trippier so right-footed that Foden had no one to link up with either behind or in front of him or on the overlap or whatever
it’s useless playing Foden in that position in these circumstances
Thought we were broadly fine yesterday tbh. Obviously not thrilling but saw it out pretty well and played some good stuff in the first 20 minutes. Think it’s easy to overstate the pressure we were under towards the end because you’re an England fan and shitting yourself, but they didn’t really create anything.
Guehi was good, Trippier was worrying but nothing we can do about it until Shaw’s fit. Would like to see an actual centre mid next to Rice, thought Gallagher helped a lot when he came on.
Group is there to get out of, generally tournaments are won by teams who aren’t rampant through the group and grow into it a bit
Bellingham was good last night until Serbia had four players set to kicking bits out of him. At that point you are sort of hoping whoever’s in Foden’s position might do something with the space that’s freed up, otherwise what happened in the second half will happen with one of the sides with actually good players.
Will reiterate that the sooner Southfate realises Trent in the middle doesn’t work the better. Bring him on to have a go at tiring full backs in the last twenty. And yeah Guehi being more solid than I was expecting was a Switzerland. Stones’ head doesn’t seem to be there yet though.
Yeah in the cold light of day that was fine really, had very much a qualifier esque vibe to it. Maybe when we got that draw against Italy to qualify for 98 just get the job done.
Kane was still shit.
superb postsmithing, this.
Yeah, think there was some inevitable but overstated anguish about the performance and team selection yesterday. We were 6/10, conserved a bunch of energy and Pickford only had the one save really.
Thought it was totally fine to try Trent out in the group stage but he shouldn’t play there again. Gallagher was good when he came on and is worth a start I think.
