It takes so long to adjudicate these incredibly marginal decisions because guess what, they’re incredibly marginal. It should never make it to the Bunker Malcolms unless it was a clear and obvious error by the ref/linesman.

Nah. Like @megalithicrock said it’s a penalty but only according to our dumb, bad rules that football is currently played by. He obviously could’ve kept running with next to zero impediment, but chose to dive. And because there was a tiny bit of contact on his foot, the dive is actually a penalty.

He steps on his foot. It’s a definite foul

See above

Nah, contact shouldn’t automatically mean it’s a foul - he threw himself on the floor from being brushed on the toe. The goalkeeper’s choices in dealing with that ball are affected by the positioning of Rob Holding. I think with offside it should either apply in all cases or just scrap it altogether.

If you are running and someone steps on your foot it generally impedes your running.

Makes a meal of it but it’s really clearly a foul

Generally yes, but not in the case of the incident that led to the penalty as he was clearly running in a normal stride before consciously reacting to the contact in order to win the penalty.

Haven’t seen any of today’s VAR but the offside Malcolming still doesn’t make any sense whatsoever when they just instantly pick an arbitrary ‘point when the ball was played’ but then measure the point where the ball is received to the nearest mm.

Yeah he doesn’t lose balance he decides to chuck himself theatrically to the ground to win a penalty

Feel like I’m watching a completely different incident here. Non arsenal/Fulham fans

  • Penalty
  • Not a penalty
  • Penalty but shouldn’t be for some reason?

Great flick on from Mat Ryan, first good thing a keeper has done for us all season

Need to watch it again but it seemed like a pretty standard If You Put Your Foot There type situation.

Feel like I’ve given away that exact penalty multiple times in Sunday league and felt like I’ve been an absolute mug.

Obviously never stopped me calling the ref an idiot dickhead but deep down, y’know

My general point was that it’s really stupid we give teams an 80% chance of a goal for shit like that.

Saka should have had a penalty in the first half.

Really feeling disconnected from Spurs atm, am really opposed to any bullshit super league stuff. It’s getting to the point where it’s harder to justify supporting one of these billioballing clubs against your broader world view.

Obviously I’ll never quit but it’s quite depressing innit

I’ve had black toenails for most of my adult life from people treading on my feet in football games. The time I throw myself on the floor as a result is the time I hang up my boots.
