just listened to the football weekly podcast from today - the Southgate discourse has gone ballistic. lots of the same arguments and nuance as has been expressed on here. I know I have been glib and perhaps a little too sneering in some of my posts aimed at the Southgate critics so apologies for that, e.g. @nestor. I do see where pretty much everyone’s arguments are coming from and that they are fair. I’ve just never come across a debate about trying to establish whether a manager deserves credit or how much and why be so prevalent. it’s a really strange and now I think quite interesting thing. Think there’s obviously so much weird psycho-drama going on both amongst England fans and those who are not but are exposed to English media about it all the time. It’s a weird thing idk where this post is going.

Know there’s weird antibants layers of irony here, and I’ve been guilty of daft hyperbole for effect. Genuinely held opinion though and not looking to be on the wind-up. Probably also guilty of dredging it back up when there’s no need, just going round in circles now (probably have been for a while tbf)
