Ulcerative colitis flare up. I saw the specialist on Friday. He wrote to the GP asking him to change my medication to sort it out. At an appointment this morning the GP refused.
That’s weird, shouldn’t the specialist have the final say in this situation?

The GP’s argument was that if the specialist wants me to take a new medicine then he should prescribe it - that it’s not his responsibility (despite having a letter from said specialist asking him to give me the prescription).
He was a real arse about it too.

That sounds really frustrating, is there a solution? Also, can’t stress affect ulcerative colitis? So they shouldn’t really be doing anything to stress you? I’m similarly frustrated at the moment as I keep getting sent for scans and tests without anyone actually communicating the results or why they’re doing them in the first place. Just talk to me so I don’t end up on google!

That’s really odd. It’s pretty common practice for the specialist to ask the GP to do that (and they usually will unless there’s a good reason not to - e.g. if it will cause an adverse reaction to some other meds the patient is taking).
Fingers crossed for you. The gf has been on the cusp of a flare for a few weeks so they were already crossed for her too.
