I’m not bitter about growing up poor, but I’m furious that nothing has changed. I get what you are saying, but to me, to vote Conservative means abandoning empathy.

Maybe the problem is not that people lack the willpower to bootstrap their way out of poverty. Maybe the problem is the fact that they have to do it at all - that gross inequality exists and is perpetuated by policies that target the poorest and most vulnerable.
