Everyone we're going to be watching the Missions: Impossibles

They’re all available to stream on Now/Sky Cinema, plus they’re showing on Film4 this week (and I think going up on that streaming service too). So hopefully that’s good availability for you, because this is something we all need to be doing this month.

We’re then going to post about them all in this thread.

Maybe discuss the new one too when it comes out, but we’d need spoiler tags if so. Might need to be a separate thread for that.

Please note that I considered going with a “your mission, should you choose to accept it…” OP – I decided against it, but I want it known that I could have done it if I wanted.

Nice that they’re on Film 4. Not sure if I’ll get a chance to watch them.

Seem to recall the second one opens really poorly like it can’t work out if it’s Austin Powers doing Goldfinger and then Hopkins turns up and it suddenly turns really great fun.

watched them recently and had a lovely time. gbom:i imo

FANTASTIC FUCKING FILMS

If you’d done it during the backup and migration phase it would’ve self destructed as well!

Glad these are coming to Film 4, shall be watching as been an age since I’ve seen them.

Do I have to?

I’ve been clear.

There should be a Mission Impossible where it’s actually way easier than expected and Ethan just gets to have a nice day out in the location where the mission was

like he’s still allowed to expense everything because they ended up spending way less than predicted anyway so he might as well splash out and besides he’s been doing a lot of overtime

“Do I take this as annual leave?”

“No, we would NOT choose to accept that. Just have a lovely day”

and he goes to one of those rainforest crazy golfs

Turns out there was no mission at all, and the target pulls off one of those masks and it’s his best pal from high school and everyone’s in on it. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETHAN!”

there could be an element of jeopardy whereby Ethan utilises his super smart reflexes upon being surprised and accidentally kills a diplomat and they have to cover it up to prevent World War III

Why did I not know Brian De Palma directed the first one? I wonder what else I’ve not known/forgotten about the earlier ones.

I think that’s one of those facts that I keep forgetting

The fact that I don’t keep forgetting is that Dave Schneider (i.e. Tony Hayers, various other characters in the Day Today / Partridge-verse; also fucking insufferable on Twitter) is in it

I don’t think I knew that either. Fuck, gonna have so much fun watching these.

Man, I wouldn’t mind getting in on this actually

For a franchise that has gone on for this long and is still a going concern in the year of our lord 2023, they’re pretty decent films

I have seen these all enough to discuss at significant length without a rewatch. The actual best series of films there is imo.

Let me be the first to say:

  1. Fallout
  2. Ghost Protocol
  3. III
  4. Rogue Nation
  5. I
  6. II

Argh I’ve been doing this very slowly on my own for the past few weeks.

Skipped 2 & 3 as I remember them being a bit shit but might rewatch them for the sake of this thread.

Spoilers: 1, 4 & 5 still stand up. I believe the next one is the one with Henry Cavill’s phantom beard
