Cyril shutting down Ocon’s whinging on the radio is brilliant.

pretty clear since the Liberty Media takeover that they’re putting a lot into making it a more entertaining and ‘american’ style viewing experience, which is great. Wish the PL would do much more of this type of content and things.

American sports are shit tho, stop start nonsense with too many points

all they’ve done is post slightly more content

the real success (potentially) will be the new regulations closing up the field, Ferrari not getting $100m just for turning up and changes being made without unanimous agreement from the teams

Sorry man but this take is right up there in freshness with “F1 is just two hours of cars driving in a circle”.

I can’t say whether what’s going on is making it more American, bit the drivers are definitely more relatable. You get a real feel for them personally when you hear them mid-race and it brings out that they are really just a bunch of excitable young guys who really, really love to race. And Kimi.

Kimi loves it

he’d have retired when leaving Ferrari otherwise

guess it was always going to happen but been confirmed now

hope he gets back on track there, doubt he’ll be winning races or anything but just not looking like a joke would be good.

Perez being bumped out is a bit cheeky given he had a contract and hasn’t really done anything wrong this season, I don’t rate him as highly as other people but he’s a good driver. doubt he’ll struggle to get another seat, Haas or Alfa Romeo presumably?

yeah it’s a shame about Perez but, whisper it quietly, Lance Stroll has been getting it done for RP this season. He’ll be fine as a number 2 for Vettel. I hope Seb is reenergised at a pretty good team with clear #1 driver status.

Perez has got decent money behind him has he?

I’d like him to go to Williams so we can see how good George Williams is against a well known quantity (sure, he’s never been outqualified but Latifi was never gonna be any good and Kubica was driving one handed)

with Alfa Romeo, Ferrari get first dibs on one seat and that will probably go to whoever wins the F2 championship out of Schumacher, Ilot and Schwartzmann (hopefully the latter). if Kimi retires and they think Perez would be a better choice than Giovinazzi then maybe they’ll go for him

similarly, if Haas drop one of their drivers (and I really hope they do) would make sense to grab Perez

I dunno much about Latifi and if he brings money but see the sense if Williams going for Perez and Russell.

Heh.

I’m really interested in seeing how good Russell is too. As you say, he’s not been up against anyone you can really compare with, the sad reminder of what could have been with Kubica and an extremely green rookie. Even so, really feels like he’s got something to me.

Perez will be fine, he’ll slip in somewhere. The merry go round is a bit confusing, is there a spot at Renault?

googles

Oh yeah, Alonso!

not sure what you mean by green here!

I’d recommend watching any of the videos by Mercedes featuring James Allison. Such a smart and engaging speaker about F1/engineeeing.

also i really like his idea of doing away with blue flags

I dunno about the blue flags thing

he rightly points out that it would result in a political game, I worry it would just mean that lower teams would just feel obliged to let their engine manufacturer past…

Just green as in inexperienced.

Urgh, a boring decision that. Not a fan of Vettel at all, he has shown he couldn’t give a shit this season (being dropped obviously, why should he, but I would want to go out in style at least, show Ferrari what they’re missing) and I would like to be proven wrong and that he will actually try if he goes to Racing Martin/Aston Point but ehhh… just not feeling this really.

Haas should ditch both Magnussen and Grosjean - both are useless.

100% agree with this. I rated Grosjean in his first two seasons at Lotus, was a bit crashy in 2012 but had some good pace and was possibly unfortunate to not pick up a win like Raikkonen managed to. and then Lotus went rubbish and so did he :man_shrugging:

never been that fussed by Magnussen, both should have been on their way at least a season or two ago.

We’ve had a bit of chat about who’s better than who, let’s do what DiS does best and rank them. Current drivers, current form, no living off past glories or potential. Who would you put in your car in your brand new F1 team for the rest of the season?

Hamilton
Verstappen
— gap —
Leclerc
Ricciardo
— gap —
Gasly (!!!)
Sainz - Norris - Perez (can’t choose between these 3)
Russell
Stroll
Vettel
Bottas
Ocon
Kvyat
Kimi (his drive from second all the way back down to 13th at Monza was one of the unsung bad drives of the year)
Albon
Magnussen
Grosjean
Giovanizzi
Latifi (hard to judge but he’s done nothing interesting at all so far)

Bit of a mulch down towards the bottom tbh, Stroll is the last one you’d really say is in any kind of solid form.

Not gonna quibble with much of this

TBF Kimi was on the wrong tyres after the Monza restart, but his plummet down the field wasn’t a good look nevertheless
