I’ve not but I don’t mind when its on a website, it’s just when you have an app and they come up without you even opening it.

Also, it’s not like the old days of DiS when I actually had notifications and messages.

I am Curtis’s first ever follower AMA

Do NOT get me started on this.

https://www.twitter.com/ma0sm is my mortal enemy and they don’t even exist.

Could set important notifications to be emailed and ignore the rest

it’s really annoying but probably less annoying if, like me, you never have any meaningful notifications anyway

I hate telephone calls.

It is this. Also if you remember they were initially blue but they changed them to red after studies showed that red, the colour of danger, tends to make people click on them faster to get rid of them.

Not just Facebook related but the pull down to refresh thing on mobiles was introduced as it feels more like gambling. There’s no real functional benefit to it over just having a refresh button but it’s like pulling a level on a slot machine. Maybe you’ll get an interesting notification, maybe you’ll get one of your grandad’s racist tirades. maybe you’ll get nothing at all. Gotta pull to refresh to find out!

The psychological manipulation techniques tech companies use on all of is fascinating/terrifying/arousing (delete as applicable).

you bonsignore these trousers

not sure why but Twitter notifications make me really anxious nowadays. barely go on there nowadays as a result, and when i do i intentionally avoid the notifications page/tab/whatever. i know they’ll almost all be “some jerk has recently tweeted - take a look!” but still. other apps are fine. weird.

I think I heard it an interview on the Danny in the Valley podcast
