Mrs Pony is very, very keen to see the giant water ponies ( 
) of Falkirk. We live in the NE of England, so it isn’t a massive trip, but still a bit of one. Are there other things to do around there that are reachable by foot/public transport for a day out? We’d be going to Edinburgh and over to Falkirk, but Edinburgh is a bit full-on for me, and we visited it recently anyway.
Any pointers would be great!
Jupiter Artland is reachable via bus from Edinburgh.
I think it’s about 30mins on the bus then takes another 15mins to walk over to it.

Falkirk Wheel is very good, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, The Forth Bridges, Blair Drummond Safari Park.

Nothing much to add here, it’s more or less my home town but there’s not a lot to shout about beyond the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel which sheeldz already mentioned. I’m sure you can book a guided tour of the kelpies that allows you inside them and up to a viewing platform at the top so if you fancy that be sure to book in advance because I don’t think it’s the sort of thing you can just rock up to on the day.
It’s a good place to base yourself to go other places with it being bang in the centre of everything, but if you’re going to be based in Edinburgh anyway then that’s not much use to you. Stirling is a nice place and probably has more to see and do.
Same with Linlithgow which is on the same train route. There’s the palace, a nice loch to walk around, some nice cafes and is actually very good for a pub crawl if you fancy it.
Culross also worth a look but maybe a bit harder to get to via public transport.
Isn’t too far away.
