They usually store it in a bunker behind the cab

eg, here, on a locomotive that has pannier tanks either side of the boiler.

The reduced capacity is why tank engines were short-distance locomotives, whereas long-distance routes would require a tender locomotive.

Had a big sulk as a kid when I realised both my brothers’ middle names were also Thomas characters (James and Edward) and mine wasn’t, insisted I was changing my middle name to Thomas

i am serious here for the tank engine argument i wasn’t expecting

My instructor and our guard got very excited about a class 37 that was knocking about at Worcester yesterday morning. Fucking trainspotters :nerd_face:
