I was in a second hand record shop in Kyoto with a Japanese friend. I saw some 80s record, something fairly uncool like the Police or Roxette or something which still had the original price tag on. Which was about £30, not even a special collectors edition or something, just the basic album. I asked my friend and he laughed and said 80s prices were crazy.

I went with a person of Indian origin, and we didn’t experience any sort of racism or ill-treatment. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen of course, but just a reassurance that it’s not an absolute given.
