8 posts were merged into an existing topic: Saturday morning thread

Currently the list is something like

  1. Hookworms - Microshift
  2. Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
  3. Soccer Mommy - Clean
  4. Nap Eyes - Iā€™m Bad Now
  5. Haley Heynderickx - I Need to Start a Garden
  6. No Age - Snares Like a Haircut
  7. Superchunk - What a Time to Be Alive
  8. Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
  9. Yo La Tengo - Thereā€™s a Riot Going On
  10. Ought - Room Inside the World

Nap Eyes is going to be seriously underrated this year, and surprised by the lack of love for CSH. Also based on singles Iā€™m dead excited for Hop Along and Malkmus.

Of what has been released this year and iā€™ve listened to hereā€™s the current order:

  1. All Melody - Nils Frahm
  2. Open Here - Field Music
  3. A Poem Unlimited - US Girls
  4. The Thread That Keeps Us - Calexico
  5. Violence - Editors (This has really clicked with me in the last few days)

Have also enjoyed Jonny Greenwoodā€™s filmscores to Phantom Thread and You Were Never Really Here too.

No real order I guess for now:

Jeff Rosenstock
Ought
Yo La Tengo
Hookworms
Hot Snakes
No Age
Horseflies
Breeders

Very encouraging since most of these artists are brand new (or basically new given how little of their discography Iā€™ve heard) to me. Iā€™d never even heard Jeff Rosenstock, Hot Snakes, No Age, Hookworms, or Horseflies before.

With honorable mentions to Car Seat Headrest (still not fully there, I love some of it but the spoken word bits and fourth-wall breaking are kind of too much for me) and Kraus (punchy shoegaze).

Not so many for me, but still got lots to check out.

Profligate - Somewhere Else
Loma - Loma
Suuns - Felt
A.A.L. - 2012-2017
Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
Nightports - Nightports with Matthew Bourne
Ought - Room Inside the World

Also shout outs to these EPs

Lauren Auder - Who Carries You
Daniel Avery - Slow Fade
Worriedaboutsatan - Shift

Surprised you didnā€™t know hot snakes or no age. Rosenstock used to be in Bomb the Music Industry innit

Howdy ho - I literally never write in here, but some obvious and not-so-obvious ones, in a rough chronological order, and based purely on what is out now:

Crater - Unearth
Shopping - The Official Body
Dream Wife - s/t
Hookworks - Microshift
Ezra Furman - Transangelic Exodus
Ought - Room Inside the World
Caroline Rose - LONER
Gwenno - Le Kov
Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar

ā€¦ooooh boy, and thatā€™s already nine. The #10 slot could go to Breeders (obvs), Linqua Franqa (Athens-based rapper who was ~spotted~ by NYT at SXSW - weā€™re so damn proud), Lucy Dacus (obvs), US Girls (so obvs), Eric Chenaux (I wrote bout this), No Babies (noiiiiiiiise from Oakland), Daphne & Celeste (no, seriously), OR Baloji (suss this out if yr into mad afrobeat mash-ups).

This does not even include whatā€™s on the horizon. May looks to be STACKED.

PS, Sean - I loved the Blow too, but that was deffo last year.

The Blow only just released it in the U.K. to coincide with tour that starts this weekend.

Iā€™d heard of Hot Snakes and No Age but for some reason never listened to them (I might have given one album by each a very distracted listen once, but I donā€™t even remember). Now Iā€™m excited to go further with them though. This is the first Iā€™ve even heard of Bomb the Music Industry! Iā€™m going to add that to my to listen list.

Oh, OK!

Ahhh, the Blow are AMAZING live! Khaleaā€™s one of the most creative, wittiest, cleverest front people Iā€™ve ever seen, period. And they were touring w/ EMA here, so you know that was a crazy gig!
