🔝 Favourite albums of 2018 so far?

seriously, lads, this song is amazing

Burns Boy
Amen Dunes

That is all.

Only one album thus far that’s immediately in contention for AOTY status:

A Place to Bury Strangers — Pinned

Beyond that there’s been some decent and interesting albums but nothing that has captured my enthusiasm the way an AOTY candidate should. Superorganism? Young Fathers? Preoccupations?

Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It
Ought - Room Inside the World
Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
Loma - Loma
Hot Snakes - Jericho Sirens
Haley Heynderickx - I Need to Start a Garden

The Soft Moon
Mournful Congregation
Camp Cope
Harm’s Way
Amen Dunes

All very good records.

Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Conjurer - Mire
Mol - Jord
Hot Snakes - Jericho Sirens
GoGo Penguin - A Humdrum Star

Car Seat Headrest
Hot Snakes

Hot Snakes
No Age
Christian Fitness

So far, nothing is coming close to Rival Consoles’ Persona for me.
(I gather working my way slowly through the IDM/Ambient thread doesn’t count.)

Actually, I should add sekundenschlaf by тпсб to that. Great stuff.

Adding a few more to my list:

Hop Along
Wye Oak
A Place to Bury Strangers
The Ex

My sort of order so far:

  1. Setec - Atrial Flutters (or Raise Yr Hand If Yr Afraid)
  2. Hannah Epperson - Slowdown
  3. Eels - The Deconstruction
  4. Sam Vance-Law - Homotopia
  5. Sin Fang, Sóley & Örvar Smárason - Team Dreams
  6. Son Lux - Brighter Wounds
  7. 1921 - In My Veins
  8. Typhoon - Offerings
  9. Wasuremono - Something Left Behind
  10. Tune-Yards - I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life

As of today. Still catching up on albums from MARCH so if it came out after 9th March I probably haven’t listened to it yet.

  1. Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
  2. Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It
  3. Brigid Mae Power - The Two Worlds
  4. Jeff Rosenstock - Post-
  5. GoGo Penguin - A Humdrum Star
  6. U.S. Girls - In a Poem Unlimited
  7. Turnstile - Time & Space
  8. MGMT - Little Dark Age
  9. Alela Diane - Cusp
  10. Marmozets - Knowing What You Know Now
  11. Brandi Carlile - By the Way, I Forgive You
  12. Lena Raine - Celeste OST (This thread is now the Celeste Fan Group btw)
  13. Salad Boys - This Is Glue
  14. Rae Morris - Someone Out There
  15. Hookworms - Microshift
  16. Shopping - The Official Body
  17. Ezra Furman - Transangelic Exodus
  18. Mary Gauthier - Rifles & Rosary Beads
  19. Screaming Females - All at Once
  20. Field Music - Open Here

Good effort putting Typhoon in, more people need to listen to this AOTY contender (imo)

I’ll give this another shot the next time I’m feeling miserable (shouldn’t be long!). I was trying really hard with it when it came out but aside from a couple songs it wasn’t sticking for me, but maybe now that it’s been a few months it’s worth a revisit.

See I was the same, first couple listens I was like “yeah this is nice” but now I’m completely obsessed with it, it’s absolutely stunning and subtle and heartbreaking all at once

Might give this a go. Who is it similar to?

An attempt at ordering this:

  1. Typhoon - Offerings
  2. Hookworms - Microshift
  3. Hot Snakes - Jerico Sirens
  4. Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!
  5. Jeff Rosenstock - POST
  6. Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
  7. Ought - Room Inside The World
  8. Nils Frahm - All Melody
  9. Yo La Tengo - There’s A Riot Going On
  10. Preoccupations - New Material

The rest I’m not sure will make the cut, and even the bottom 5 are on shaky territory, I need to give IceAge, Grouper and Jon Hopkins more time, all of which I can see earning a place

Big, emotional, intricate indie rock so I’d compare it to: early arcade fire, bright eyes, antlers, devil & god era Brand New

I posted a track earlier in the thread:
