Objectively the best motorway is the m2 by Ballymena. You can see it here

North of Preston it is the nearest to tarmacked nirvana mankind can ever know.
South of Preston… well I don’t even want to think about it.
Don’t drive so M25 for its symbolic and cultural value, and because it goes nowhere.
M62 at Ferrybridge. Very poor service station.

Yep, agreed with all of this. Unfortunately, I had family that lived off of the M65, so that bit of the M6 is really all I know. Have driven up through to Glasgow and Edinburgh a few times and yeah it’s lovely
It’s weird, we’re in Lancaster so head north it’s quiet, fast, great views, head south and it’s endless roadworks and multiple delays.
