In terms of recent video games Portal 2?

Most of Zimmer’s work with Nolan is great IMO.

Pretty much anything by John Williams for Lucy’s, Spielberg or Donner.

Big fan of soundtracks, which never really get discussed enough or are generally ignored in favour of album-talk.

First that comes to mind from this year is the Nils Frahm soundtrack to Victoria, and it’s the best thing about the film which I didn’t like all that much. Don’t usually like Frahm either.

(if you pay close attention to this there are some minor spoilers, but the track is just great)

beyond the black rainbow (and its soundtrack) is great, i need to rewatch it

totally forgot about this, really enjoyed it!

A soundtracks thread! Fantastic.

Too many to try and list really so I’ll just mention the just released The Childhood of a Leader by Scott Walker.

Excited that Mica Levi has a new release soon too:

Couple of interesting vids on film music / temp music.

Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury - Drokk: Music for Mega-City One

Portishead man and mate make soundtrack for the 2012 Dredd film using just two analogue synths, It’s Carpentereque and brilliant, one of my favourite Portishead-adjacent records.

Sadly they didn’t use it in the film, so this is an ‘alternate soundtrack’ or whatever. (Shame, it would have fit really well.) They also did the OST for Ex Machina.

Marvel are so fucking shit with their music. Relegated to the end credits and thus fairly overshadowed. The Avengers theme is decent (is it Alan Silvestri? Someone fairly famous anyway, I’m sure), but they seem to have overlooked how powerful it’s been in all the DC films of the past. A real shame.

My favourite ever is probably Carmine Coppola’s score for Apocalypse Now. About the only thing of benefit that the Redux version adds is more of his stuff (the French plantation scenes are particuarly pleasing).

Also a big fan of pretty much all of Bernard Herrman’s stuff, but especially Taxi Driver. He actually died the day after finishing the score

love gaming soundtracks. bug fan of the mass effect 2 and 3 soundtracks. also, the “chime” soundtrack is worth checking out.

i was just listening to Dark Knight yesterday, properly awesome

The Dark Knight is so good.

Nothing really beats the soundtrack to Bugsy Malone, does it?

Neil Young’s Dead Man score is also pretty amazing

Cliff Martinez also did the soundtrack for the show ‘The Knick’. Even if you don’t bother with the show, the music was fantastic and definitely worth checking out.

Amelie- Yann Tiersen
There Will Be Blood - Jonny Greenwood
The Third Man - Anton Karas
