I find it much harder to like a band that hasn’t got that kind of track in them somewhere, tbh

The one on Music for 18 Musicians is boss

Totally agree. Particularly love this one from last year

Also really enjoying whatever it is that’s going on at the end of Lykke Li’s Utopia off so sad, so sexy. It’s a classic uplifting anthem for the first three quarters but then spirals into some maudlin dirge that gradually falls more and more out of time with itself. It’s great

Edit: add a link, dickhead

These are all ridiculously perfect closing tracks.

Don’t know if this counts but Glory Box by Portishead is a perfect closer.

Got 11 minutes to spare? Then get a load of this. Love the kind of emotionally draining final song that you couldn’t possibly follow with anything.

Sweet Sweet is sandwiched in between! I could have / should have included Adore but figured I’d already mentioned Mellon Collie in the other post. The For Martha climax followed by Blank Page is unbeatable.

obviously it depends.

but I think this takes some beating (bit obvious but…)

I guess it’s what fits well with the album, as my top closers are a mix of the above. The only ones I dislike are when it’s an average 4 mins song but the artist drags it out for 7-8 minutes just becaise it’s the closer so should be “epic”.

Favorite Closers
Future of the Left - Notes on Achieving Orbit
Weezer- Butterfly
Super Furry Animals - Keep the Cosmic Trigger Happy.

Fucking excellent call.

This is definitely guilty of that but I love it. I LOVE it when after minutes of interminable noisy noodling it suddenly comes back into a big spaghetti western soundtrack type thing (around 7 mins - it’s great)

I’m enjoying the closer on the lastest Ash album a lot atm. Nice epic build up.

Oh and We Are a Black Box Recorders by Copperpot Journals fits the bill nicely. That repeating guitar line at the end

TWIABP have nailed the art of writing an epic album closer:

Infinite locked groove

Good call. This is now the locked groove thread.

What’s your favourite locked groove?

I like that Lee Ranaldo album where every track has a locked groove

The end of side one of the viet cong album is pretty darn good
