Technically not, it’s a sequel to the original apparently. Peele seems to have been brought in to heighten the racial tensions (edit, wrong word, I guess make them important to?) around the idea and gentrification.

Nia DaCosta who’s directing did a good job on the episodes of Top Boy I watched but no particular episode stood out for me in terms of direction so…

Oh yeah, no question about that! And I guess he had input in the scripts. This one was a lot more self-aware, particularly about the more unpleasant aspects of the films, which they have to face up to. Also really good to see Lawrence not just being the embarrassing butt of all the jokes as well.

I think the film’s use of silence / little to no soundtrack along with the repetitive shots that created this feeling. Like the scene in the pub where Martin made Hugo repair the lobster trap reminded me of the intensity of that final scene in whiplash as you just couldn’t tell where things were gonna end up

Really enjoyed Birds of Prey, good silly fun and I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Thought Ewan McGregor was odd casting, though.

Holy shit this is the 4th film?!

Dark Waters - was worried this would be quite dry but the lesson is: always (well, nearly always) have faith in Todd Haynes. Some jarring musical bits aside (the score is really intrusive at points, an intense almost Uncut Gems like piece soundtracked to… Mark Ruffalo doing some photocopying) this was decent.

The Invisible Man - went in to this completely blind, other than knowing Moss was in it and had a total hoot with it. Bit like a cross between Martha Marcy May Marlene and Poltergeist with Moss carrying enough tension that the role requires. Some genuinely horrible bits as well. Perfect Friday night in the cinema after a crap week film.

The Wild Blue Yonder (2005)
Will never go down as one of Herzog’s best but i’ve got a great fondness for this film, reckon i’ve seen it 5 times by now. Properly funny and Brad Dourif is mad underrated.

You haven’t seen Crocodile Dun3: Wollongong Drift?

Love him. Often think of him accidentally freaking his kids out when he shaved his eyebrows off for LoTR.
Remember going on about him in a film thread a couple of years ago too

(can’t believe I forgot to put him in my top 25 actors list… as you say: underrated)
