Yeah its surprisingly meandering considering its brief

because this definitely needed another remake

New adaptations of books aren’t remakes really.

i love 4od so much

like it’s becoming one of my top streaming platforms

I watched Uncut Gems. I mostly liked the bit where the Weeknd tries to beat up Adam Sandler

Parasite was absolutely amazing. Really blown away by it.

Yeah but I think we should definitely be considering whether it’s a good idea to adapt old books that will promote them to kids when they contain stuff like this in them

In The Secret Garden , Mary’s maid says to her, “I thought you was a black too,” and Mary stamps her foot and says, “You thought I was a native! You dared! You don’t know anything about natives! They are not people. …”

:grimacing:

Saw Color Out of Space (or Colour Out Of Space to use the original title as Lovecraft wrote before those new spellings came in) last night.

Overall I think an 8/10? It’s very much a homage to Carpenter’s take on this sort of thing (@Lo-Pan) but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and how it looked too, had that Lovercraft feel for sure.

On the other hand Cage is still Cage and it’s a bit odd. I think maybe the notion was to give it that black humour touch that Carpenter had but it doesn’t work as well as a good script and Kurt Russell delivering the lines. Still, a few rough patches aside I definitely had fun.

Britbox has some surprisingly good stuff on it:

This Life
The 7 Up Series (!)
The Red Shoes, Colonel Blimp, The 39 Steps, some old classics

don’t think i’ve seen a good lovecraft film, will check it (reanimator gets half a pass)

got The Wild Blue Yonder and I Spit On Your Grave from my rental thing. Gonna be quite a weekend.

Yeah it’s obviously a really tough thing to do. I think this gets the atmosphere right but obviously YMMV. I read the story before seeing it which may have helped too, it was nice to spot the direct nods to what’s in that story but also it’s light on the actual horrors in any case.

oh hang on, it’s nic cage. never mind.

Here are the films my mate bought with his birthday money before meeting me for the film last night, btw. Thought you might find his picks interesting
