I have decided this is a good movie but Jack Nicholson, Mark Whalberg and Alec Baldwin drag the whole thing down. Some of the other Boston accents are probably bad but I have no ear for that

Please, if you haven’t already, watch Infernal Affairs, which is the original Hong Kong movie The Departed was, ahem, inspired by. It’s approximately four hundred times better, and it’s on Netflix atm.

Recently watched:

Plus One - Rom-com where Maya Erskine and Jack Quaid are single friends and are each others plus one’s at a bunch of wedding invites. Good film but just lacked that something that could have made it better. 7/10.

I Care A Lot - Rosamund Pike has a scam where she preys on vulnerable elderly people, becomes their legal guardian and steals their money. She then picks the wrong elderly person to mess with. Excellent support with Peter Dinklage and Dianne Wiest. Won’t say anymore about it did enjoy the ride. The final third of the film wasn’t as good as the first two but maybe that was just me. Still pretty good. 8/10.

Legacy Of Lies - Scott Adkins punches and shoots baddies but mainly shoots them. The plot was pointless and that’s fine. A few very good set piece fist fight choreographies and some fun shoot’em ups in the vain of John Wick but unfortunately there should have been more of those and less of the wannabe James Bond thing. There was a big dollop of cheesiness and pointlessly silly at the end too which wasn’t needed. It was a good enough film but definitely no Avengement or Debt Collectors but fun to watch with a drink. 7/10.

Watching this on this recommendation alone.

Thanks, enjoying it.

Wahlberg is the best thing about the film. I like when someone just gets a green light to act like the biggest prick they can portray.

There’s a load of Almodovar stuff on there which is mostly good, if you’ve not seen it before

Agree with your Legacy Of Lies review, perfectly fine Friday night film but hoped for a bit more. Did laugh a lot at it becoming a full blown piece of Ukrainian propaganda towards the end. Fair play to the lads.

Just watched American Hustle. Enjoyed it a fair amount but I think the use of voiceover stuff was a real mistake and dragged it down.

Watched Josie and the Pussycats last night, and it’s absolutely incredible.

Read the wiki for it and there was a quote from a critic which was like “the constant product placement seemed a bit hypocritical” :grinning:

I thought Ema was very good but then I love nearly every film Gael García Bernal is in.

Watching Leonardo DiCaprio in various states of distress for 2 hours is quite fun. It’s certainly a better pulp movie than Shutter Island which is painfully dull

Official di caprio scorcese ratings

Departed - shite but at least sort of knows its shite I guess
Wolf of Wall Street - the absolute pits
Gangs of New York - boring, shite
Shutter Island - will never watch
The Aviator - doesn’t exist

Wolf of Wall Street rocks, I think it’s an all time comedy film (I am not a film buff)

I guess it was a mutually beneficial partnership- Scorsese gets someone young and eager and easy finance for his movies, Di Caprio gets a safe prestige director to work with

they probably would have made more interesting work separately imo

(even though Di Caprio is fairly dull and I’m baffled when people cite him as one of their favourite actors)

The only thing he’s been exceptional in imo is ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, especially the scene where he’s acting in the western. Otherwise I think he’s good but just gets very very good roles somehow.

Yeah when I think of Di Caprio I think ‘good actor’ but off the top of my head I’m struggling to think of a good film he’s been in in the last 20 years (or however long ago catch me if you can came out)

di caprio was pretty great in critters 3 to be fair to the lad

Revolutionary Road was quite good

Shutter Island is also quite good b-movie fun until Ben Kingsley turns up to explain the plot and completely ruins it. Don’t particularly think Scorcese is that great tbh
