Sector 5 and 7 slums, and Wall Market are all amazing aesthetically.

My grief is with a very specific aspect of the game, and as soon as I stop being a big baby, I’ll return to the game.

I can’t really describe how much this game means to me. It hit at just the right time. I upgraded from my mega drive to a PSOne at Christmas 1998.

From 5 minutes in I was completely obsessed. Was being ferried back and forth a lot from my mum’s to my grandma’s, where my dad was living at the time, and I always took my PlayStation with me so I could dip into that world when things got a bit much.

I remember Grandma coming into my room and standing watching me play for a bit. Just as I’d decided to go up the stairs at the shinra building. She was baffled.

I took a couple of years to complete it. I’m legendarily shit at computer games. Got stuck so often and didn’t have a guide.

The soundtrack is a wonder, I’ve no idea how it could be so good. Still listen to it on the reg now.

Not bothered if the remake isn’t perfect. Having that world expanded is exactly what I wanted.
And now that ruffers has said it’s shit I’m even more hyped.

Playing through the original at the moment and the pace is what makes that game great, all the towns and memorable places are like little vignettes, you only spend about 20-30 minutes in one place beforehand moving on. Gives it a propulsive sense of going on a journey that so many modern games fail to capture
