Seems like new album was given a 4.5/5 on a review here though I don’t speak French:

Happy Field Music Album Release Day!

It’s another great release from FM with wonderful little flourishes that keep it fresh!

Enjoying this. It’s pretty much the straight up guitar pop album they’ve been promising to make for years.

Yep, enjoying this a lot. They have such a great ear for a pop hook.

Also have been enjoying their appearance on many, many podcasts in the lead up to it (including their own), they just seem like a really nice pair of lads who are incredibly nerdy about music.

Really looking forward to a listen. Could stream it now but will wait for the CD to arrive to bung it through the Big Stereo first.

These guys are the coolest just true talented musicians consistently making good albums. Outlasted most indie bands from the 2000s.

Have had a proper listen now. They are so bloody good.

I loved that interview. Peter always comes across as the most genuine guy, with the most thoughtful, considered and honest answers to everything, proud of their work whilst always being modest. They really do ‘walk the walk’ as a band.

I am enjoying Flat White moon a lot. I think Plumb is currently still my favourite, the second half of FWM hasn’t clicked quite as much as the first yet, but it is growing on every listen.

Also, they did a Tim Burgess listening party last night for it, if anyone wants more distractions from doing work like me

I did laugh at one point after where they were discussing influences and making a point of saying that just because you sound like you’re influenced by one band doesn’t mean you are, you might just share common influences with them. They cited XTC as an example, which is funny because one of the FWM reviews specifically mentioned XTC as a big influence

Something about the tone of the Pitchfork review of this album really annoyed me.

I know. I really don’t think it’s a bad thing that they decided to smooth out the more challenging edges from they’re usual sound for this album. It’s certainly not dumb, it’s relative and still more complex than a lot of stuff out there. But, losing their ‘swagger’? Swagger isn’t really a term I’d associated with them!

I feel like I should really like this band, purely because I still go back to The Noisy Days Are Over on an almost weekly basis (and sometimes whatever track 3 was on that album), but nothing else really clicks the same as that did.

What would you recommend for a fan of those two tracks as an entry to bloody love the pants off this band?

It’s hard to say, they don’t often do similar tracks. In my head this is close.

I then was about to post about another 5 tracks I love but realised they’re really nothing like those two tracks so not really what you’re asking for! Here’s a couple of them anyway

They seem like they’re gonna be around forever. Their fire is never dimmed, they love what they do and just want to keep moving forward. I can’t wait to see them live when I’m 50 with an astonishing back catalogue to pick from.

Good interview this.

And about that XTC influence that doesn’t exist…They keep mentioing it!

:joy:

I like this album on the whole, but I especially like Orion from the Street. What a gorgeous and inviting opening song!

It really is. No Pressure I also like a lot more on the album than on it’s own.

Watching their live stream from the Brudenell, and remembering how great they are (and how much I love that venue too…)

Look, it’s a real in joke
