Thinking about it, monthly threads might be preferable for me. Personally, if I’d seen a film months after it had been discussed I’d be more comfortable starting a new discussion in a monthly thread rather than dragging up old posts.

I wonder if we do have monthly threads if we could have an agreement where the OP could link to the previous month(s) thread for ease of reference if required?

this is a good point, there is some ease of use in the massive thread.

dunno, there’s just something off-putting about it sometimes. I didn’t go into the video games thread for a few days, it had a 100 new posts, I couldn’t be bothered to read them at the time, they slowly crept up (it’s on 500 or so now) and I’m never going to open it again

That’s happened to me too before, building up hundreds of unread replies, but couldn’t you just jump to the end and start reading from that point?

Mate, you’re talking to a community of mavericks who spent their salad days indoors updating their Media Player tags. It’s a hard sell.

I mean obviously I could. will I? only time will tell

I do feel like these formats could do with some change though, some reinvigoration. it’s been the same since 2013 or something. maybe we try it, and after a few months, we’ll realise it’s a pointless change that has no purpose aside from the novelty value. if that’s the case, since these forums function properly we could just merge all the useless monthly threads to form one 2018 megathread again. (I assume).

fine with a rolling general film chat thread but would rather have more individual threads for new releases

find the rolling thread alright but not really a fan of everything being shoved in there, limits the audience to about 10 people
feel the same about the rolling genre threads on the music boards

To me that’s the best solution suggested so far

I kind of feel like there’s a higher threshold for that when we have the all-in-one rolling thread. Think that would be different if we had a separate dedicated film & TV board, but as I said earlier I definitely see the arguments against that solution too. But I guess as long as no one minds the social board being cluttered up with film/television threads then that’s the way to go.

We did this awhile back I think it’s a good idea.

Well I assume not really but the point of this discussion seems to be about making it easier to find stuff about films and TV, which is part of what this is for.

Looking forward to us going with the wishes of the majority in 2018. Viva democracy, and viva the bloody good lads and lasses or neither of the aboves.

makes you think about dead subforums that nobody posts in!!

The film forum is dead…

…dead excited about all the extra work it’ll cause for @moderators

I’ve added the subcategory in any case. Thus will be the first thread added to it

Why not appoint a couple of sub forum mods?

You can’t make forum-based moderators. Everyone who’s Level 4

https://community.drownedinsound.com/groups/trust_level_4

can amend threads to put them in the right category, but the point is that few people give a shit.

the annoying thing about sub forums is that when you get to the end of a thread you can’t click the ‘social’ tag to go back to social, you can only click whatever shite house sub forum tag it also has
