I still enjoy the first one a lot but that is also while laughing at it, cracking thing to put on with a couple of others after you’ve been to the pub. It was always a really cheesy film mind, the “kiss of life” or whatever at the end is silly.

The Golden Compass wasn’t a very good film though. Pretty, but incredibly dull - not a patch on the source material.

The BBC are making a TV series of it at the moment. First series will be eight episodes. No idea if that corresponds to the first book, or what.

they are silly - but there are enough possible / improbable death scenarios to keep them interesting
