have you seen Diana

I haven’t. It’s meant to be an absolute stinker though right?

Have you seen Jupiter Ascending? His unintentionally hilarious villain is the only remotely memorable thing about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09ckBIXZ044

The Edge of Seventeen – Excellent teen drama that I knew little about before going in and it was a real treat. Sharp, very fleshed out and likeable characters and hit some real emotional feels for me. Its out in more cinemas today so see if it you can.

Almost Christmas –Cheesy but inoffensive and Mo’Nique is a fucking star because of course she is.

Watched Inside Out yesterday and wasn’t really blown away by it. The first half was a real slog while the second half was more vintage Pixar. I think the subject matter is too hard to relax into at first so you can’ really enjoy the lighthearted nature of it.

Chi-Raq - Really fun, angry and passionate from Spike Lee (for the first in what, at least 10 years?) - not all of it works and it misjudges the tone on a couple of occasions but its just a relief to see him do something actually good again.

Waiting to Exhale - Deathly boring.

like he says the words in the script and stands where he’s meant to?

Election. Its alright

Saw Fantastic Beasts yesterday (for nowt obvs).

Very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. All the action/exploding/fighting at the end I could have done without but that’s the same for pretty much every blockbuster I see. Final scenes very touching.

Great performance from the guy who played Jacob Kowalski.

Sully - Extremely six out of ten. Like it’s almost a stunning achievement how “ok” this is. Tom Hanks is good, it did a decent job of building tension for something you knew how it would end but yeah, it is unbelievably “fine”.

The Edge of Seventeen- Really liked this, it’s like the best version of a thing that I’m not that into in general though. Hailee Steinfeld was wonderful, Woody Harrelson was absolutely brilliantly sardonic. It rose above it’s cliches but it was still very cliched if you know what I mean. Always think there’s something quite sinister about the way it’s portrayed that young girls have to have some kind of experience with a dreadful human being before they’re ready to commit to someone who isn’t dreadful though. Quite an insidious message that is sent out all too often IMO.

Lol why did you see this?

Unlimited card innit and it worked with the required timing of the cinema visit.

Looks like the ultimate White Man: The Movie

Yeah, it’s classic Clint Eastwood pining for the classic American hero but in fairness it is a pretty incredible story so I can see why someone would want to dramatise it.

The Piano Teacher, pretty tense and unsettling yet incredibly absorbing. Reminds me of The Secretary except without the optimism.

I watched the director’s cut of Betty Blue on MUBI last week, and liked it a lot.

This weekend I (re)watched Deck the Halls and Miracle on 34th Street, both excellent classic Christmas films
