Films whose soundtracks you knew well before you saw the film

Sort of: I listened to all the Star Wars scores of the prequel and sequel trilogies as soon as they were released many times but would take a few weeks to organise a trip to see them. Also, thanks to Episode I including “Qui-Gon’s Noble Death” as a title I avoided reading track titles for the other 5. Anyway, was v interesting to watch like that.

On a separate level my love of JW scores means there were long stretches of just listening to them before I rewatched the OT or the Indiana Jones films so it became a weird experience of listening to the familiar music first.

Only other comparable thing is I bought the Elfman score to 1989’s Batman and listened to it over and over.

Then years later I finally saw Darkman for the first time and it turned out Elfman more or less ripped his own Batman score off wholesale so it was very distracting to hear hugely familiar cues for a different film on this one I’d not seen.

I vividly recall my mate complaining about the same thing with the Phantom Menace score.

I think maybe it came out well ahead and Star Wars fans tend to love the score because I definitely wasn’t alone, yeah
