Julian Baker I reckon

Headliner?

Oh. No

Sorry…I didnt specify but that’s what I was listing

Oh. Then yeah yeah yeahs

Though I just discovered her through this thread: Favourite NPR Tiny Desk Concerts and would be absolutely stoked for that now

Her and Big Thief would make excellent mid-range bookings

Big Thief were excellent at Green Man last year FWIW

Throw in Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus for you mid-range bookings as well.

There’s a real swell of good indie/folk female acts around atm…they’ve got to go with some of them, haven’t they?

Book Julie Byrne back too and get the sound right this time.

Abso-damn-lutely! Was disappointed by that, should have been a special show.

Getting impatient now, even though I don’t expect anything for 2-3 weeks. Need to distract myself.

Despite that…I have another headliner shout: Wolf Parade? I guess there’s no tours scheduled after January…but that does at least mean they don’t appear booked for September. I think theyre exactly right size and style for it (plus I would be very happy).

They headlined the Garden Stage before and were really great. Reckon that is as far up as they could get, but totally reckon they will be at this, or EotR, as have a new album out, and are on tour generally.

Fingers crossed.

They didn’t headline did they? But it was bloody great. Not often I properly jump around at the front of a crowd these days, but we went proper bonkers that night. Will always welcome back Wolf Parade.

Christ! 2010! Before the Woods Stage even existed and the year Modest Mouse, Wilco and Yo La Tengo headlined. New Pornos and Caribou also on the bill. Monotonix playing in the crowd and a wheely bin.

What slot was it? One from top? I remember it was proper dark, and man they were brilliant. Was when I started liking them in earnest.

I’m pretty bad at gauging what size an EOTR headliner is…especially with Bill Callahan last year. I also suspect it’s getting a bit harder to book larger acts, with Brexit and everything, so I reckon at least one headliner will be someone we all think is a tad too small.

This is the EOTR thread?

Yeah, subbing Modest Mouse according to this clashfinder. Man, I was sooooo drunk during that night. Sacked off MM halfway through and sauntered over to Plants & Animals. Think I may have chundered en route.

I’m a moron; this or Green Man.

Anyway, here is how you gauge band sizes for EotR, but you need to know your Bristol venues.

Woods stage headliner - Academy sized band
Garden Stage headliner - Thekla sized, or potentially Trinity sized act
Tipi - Also Thekla sized, but noisier, weirder, or dancier than the Garden Stage act.

Christ that was a year. Look at that Saturday too: Monotonix, Brakes, YLT then Caribou. And if anyone tells me that was the time that YLT blew my mind, in beautiful weather, and that it was 8 years ago, then bloody hell, where did that time go?

Yeah unfortunately I don’t know my Bristol venues…but I just had a look at their upcoming events…and cant see many EOTR headliner type acts, tbh. Things like Fratellis, Wombats, Franz Ferdinand and then just heritage stuff as well…

The one tactic I have tried to use is monthly listeners on Spotify…with between 1 million and 3 million (Sufjan notwithstanding) being a good headliner barometer (this also explains why 2016 headliners were viewed poorly…)
