If I am eating my fnc at home I ask for no snv because the chippy always uses the clear v and I like the brown one and sometimes they put too much salt on
Or if you get suddenly mugged by some slugs
Happens more than you think.
Or leeches.
Feel ill at the thought of the inevitable crusty rims.
Fillet of Soul, Birmingham City Centre
Haddock and chips
Black pudding fritter
Tartare sauce + can o coke
Cooked in beef dripping.
Batter was incredibly crispy, was just the right side of being overdone.
Chips were decent.
Black pudding fritters were very good, although 3 was too many.
All that for £11 though. Good value. Very good/10.
Mini cod+chips and battered brussels sprouts
Fish was very good. Chips were a bit overcooked for me.
The sprouts were a bit disappointing - not sure what I expected but the batter added little to the experience and the sprouts were exactly as they would be if you’d boiled or steamed them.
Just ordered fish and chips
large cod and chips
bread roll that i didn’t eat
9/10. was lovely and hot.
Why is cod more popular in England and haddock is more so in Scotland?
Calamari and chips from a place called Salt and Vinegar, south side of Glasgow. Calamari is a bit of a f’n’c rarity, so I’m always happy to see it. This was crispy and tender, and there was tons! Couldn’t finish it. Chips good, not too many. Like a fool, I forgot to get an Irn Bru - won’t be making that mistake again
Easy 9/10 for fish quality, could honestly have been half the amount of crispy lads though, I can’t move rn
Oof
I have driven past there on many occasions but never considered it might be good - the decor always seemed a bit try-hard hipster or something.
I’m quite keen to have my prejudice corrected now…
Procured from Seasmiths in Porthtowan. An absolutely unbeatable 10/10. Amazing, light batter, the crispiest chips, offer of scraps for an additional 20p.
Life highlight right there.
Looks good. Minus one point for the salad though.
Was going to ask why is there a sprig of coriander with it
That was a piece of flat leaf parsley, put onto the fish as it came out the fryer. The flavour went into the batter, a bit like the lemon once that was squeezed onto it. It was, as suggested, incredible.
