3 goals in the footy on friday, was very pleased with my attacking progress but struggled with tracking back towards the end and my performance in nets was so bad im expecting a call from man united
first attempt at running 5k in months today (i walked half of it ) trying to be more active during the week again even if it’s just 20 mins, have found motivation hard to come by this year with my work/sleep pattern
Hate how I feel like I was just getting back into the swing of gym 3x week, 2x bikes and pilates when BOOM I get the lurgy which is probably Covid and haven’t been able to do much. Really fucking annoying. I’m so impatient!
Yeah I’m coming out the other side of covid round 2 atm and it’s been weird and frustrating to find myself having difficulty breathing while walking, haven’t even tried more intense exercise yet. Booked in for a spin class tomorrow morning though so we’ll see hope that goes as I’ve felt better today
I’m trying to use the promise of a Strava badge to get back into running three times a week after doing one or two for ages.
I managed three last week, including one after work on Thursday and one on Saturday morning - neither a preferred option - and then kicked off this week today. It’s fair to say I ache quite a bit.
(But also after falling off in the summer due to a long holiday it’s really nice to see the gradual improvements I’m getting at the moment, and this should really help.)
Couple of very cold mornings (Saturday and today), which have been tough, but it’s a good feeling. Especially as I can feel my performance improving - this is something I always forget, how much more I can feel that when I regularly do 3/week.
Also Wednesday last week I accidentally (it felt good, so I just… kept going) did the longest run I’ve ever recorded on Strava. It was after work so luckily no consequences that day, but I was absolutely wiped out all of Thursday
So I met the target for the year of 150, and immediately stopped going, but not too worried about that because there was other stuff going on later in September that was taking up my time. Also I’ve been back into it this month and I’m at 11 so far for October, so that’s fine.
I think stretching the target to 200 is reasonable, I’m not realistically going to hit any major milestone past that if I take into account I might not do much later in December.

Kept up leaving the house streak
9k walk on Saturday
A very good week although it meant I was hobbling around on my walk on Saturday as my inner thighs and glutes were feeling all the FitOn stuff I’d been doing. This week will not be so good as I fell over yesterday and I’ve really bruised up my knee and currently can hardly walk Won’t be cycling today, really hope it isn’t fucked for ages cos I am enjoying being so active!
Reached my goal today I guess. With added swimming have comfortably averaged doing something daily for a year. Still a bundle of anxiety and shit so maybe exercise isn’t the answer after all.
My headphones broke the other day before going…fuuuck that music they play!! How can people not feel it necessary to drown it out?

Kept up leaving the house streak, despite injury but mainly just short stomps out for groceries
Fell over on the underground last Sunday night and my knee was badly bruised and swollen. Was especially annoying after building up such steam the week before and craving more activity. Oh well, that’s life.
Knee still bruised and hurts to bend but much improved, trying to decide whether it would be a good or bad idea to get back on the bike today
Bit of a lazy weekend. Park Run was cancelled and I didn’t replace it with another run like I usually would (or anything else). Swam a bit last week, but have generally got slightly slacker with that too. At least with football, there’s something I’m doing every week.
Park Runs: 32/40.
Total running: 376/500km (need to up my rate a bit on this, but doable).
Swimming: 118,525 / 150,000m. (should make this one).
Football: P33 G44 A30. (pleased with these, target was 1 of each per game).
Yeah, feel exactly the same. Was on a really nice run with exercising, perhaps my best ever!, but i’ve had this cold (possibly covid) for two weeks now and still feel knackered. Hopefully get back to it towards the end of this week, but right now just want to sleeep.
If you don’t mind me asking, with your swimming target, how far do you tend to swim in one session/how many times do you go a week?
I’ve just joined the local leisure centre and am properly swimming again for the first time in years (not counting splashing around in the sea on holiday). I’m going a couple of times a week and doing a km each time - just felt like a nice round number and takes me about 35 mins with a warm up/cool down.
Just curious as 150,000m feels like a huge target to me! Whereas your running target is roughly what I do every year. Maybe I need to consider upping the number of lengths I do…
I generally tend to do 1600m per swim, which takes me about 40 minutes. All breast stroke, head above the water, so not too energetic. I originally set 100km as a goal, as have never really counted before - but that just needed an average of going 3 times every two weeks, which i just did way more than in two or three of the early months, and so upped the target a bit to keep myself going.
Wouldn’t say to increase your own volume based on comparing distance numbers at all though. You could easily be doing a better work out at less distance, completely depends. If you do want to increase, just gradually build from where you are I’d say. I just took a standard swimming week and multiplied it modestly to start. I do fall off things, so think if I’d set 150 to start, I might not be anywhere close, whereas setting something more achievable to begin, essentially made me do more to get to that quicker.
Thanks, this is all really helpful. Swimming’s just an area where I have no real grasp of what a generally accepted ‘normal’ (for want of a better phrase) workout is, or what my own abilities/limits are yet.
I’ll definitely look to build gradually, when I do - and just look to enjoy it rather than be too distance focused in the meantime.
