Good grief I only just got it
Is anyone else making music like this? I love how explosive those choruses are.
Neither
Great contribution. Nearly as good as mine.
It’s these sorts of searing insight that makes time on these boards worthwhile.
All these posts have made me revisit the first two MR albums which I haven’t listened to since I bought them on cassette when they were released. They are completely brilliant. I also had Lego My Ego on tape, b sides and stuff, so will check that out again too…
This one can be resolved by considering one simple, if seemingly unrelated, question. How many members of each band have I met in Greggs the morning after a gig?
Flaming Lips: 0 Mercury Rev: 1
Who was it, and more importantly, what did they buy?
I’m gonna guess Grasshopper - Steak bake
Grasshopper’s in a pie way Grasshopper’s in a Greggs Jonathan’s nipped to Spar, to buy a pack of fegs
In other Grasshopper fast food news, my friend bought a burrito next to him at Green Man a few years back. He was probably on the steak then too. Just headlined the festival, why not treat yourself
My mate would not shut up about it all weekend.
Listened to the album for the first time today. Actually quite blown away by some of it. That totally nuts sleepy rivers track especially made an impression.
Can feel a catalogue binge coming…
Yeah, thanks to this thread I went on a binge of the first three albums. I forgot how great this song is, especially once it fully lifts off.
“Sweet Odyssee Of A Sausage Roll T’ Th’ Centre Of Yer Gut”
Yes. Yes it is.

Sounds like a Mercury Rev listening clubs in order after the R.E.M ones done.
Mercury Rev’s "Dream of a Young Girl as a Flower’, despite it’s terrible title, is my favourite song by either band since the turn of the century. It’s quite a ride
It was David Baker. He didn’t buy anything while I was there. He just sort of stared at the trays of pies and sausages with complete bewilderment. I shyly said that I’d enjoyed the gig and he turned, thought about it for a few seconds, then replied: “Oh!.. Thanks… Man” and returned to his contemplation of baked goods.
