Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk

Seeing lots of unconfirmed reports saying that Florian Schneider has sadly passed away. A huge loss if so.

RIP

Seems to be something to it. Trending on Twitter now.

So chuffed I got to see him with Kraftwerk. They absolutely blew my mind live. Not many musicians can claim the tag of true pioneer but he most definitely was one of them. Had massive respect when he retired as well. Don’t think he wanted to sully the legacy of what they had achieved.

Confirmed by Billboard. Terrible news, think he’s been retired for a good 10 years but his influence is impossible to overstate.

This is so lovely

Fuck. What an impact to have had.

Very sad. Maybe my favourite band, certainly an almost perfect body of work

very, very sad news.

Love that they could still knock out a banger so late in their career.

Incredibly sad. Only got into them maybe a decade ago. Such a huge legacy.

Also did not know Bowie’s V2 Schneider was named after him.

Imagine being one of those people who change the direction of an entire art form completely. Just imagine being one of those people. RIP.

Any excuse to post the tune that got me into them.

Awful. So many of my heroes dying these days.

Kraftwerk possibly the most important and and influential band since The Beatles.

Awful news. Was lucky enough to have a cool as fuck young German teacher in secondary school who first introduced me to Kraftwerk years before it would’ve ever happend organically. It’s not a stretch to say that those lessons and Kraftwerk’s music sold me on the idea of being European first, British second at an early age.

Really terrible news. As a kid around 11 years old I would tape the charts or select tracks from the Top 40 and would listen every Sunday 5pm - 7pm. Computer Love was like Number 40 or something and I just sat there staring at the radio thinking what on earth is this, it’s fantastic, so different, fresh, real, minimal, electronic, beautiful…

Someone somewhere decided to flip the 7" and the B-Side rocketed to Number 1 and most will agree The Model is an outstanding track. They then rereleased Showroom Dummies I think and if anything that was even better with its cold, weird and lovely sound and kids at school would start to lock and body pop to it. Tour De France would only cement these thoughts further still. Just so gloriously different, genre walking and influential.
