Really sad news. Despite only really getting into them finally around 10 years ago theur whole catalogue has resonated with me and linked me into offer music.

Can anyone recommend a good book on them? I would absolutely devour that right now.

I’ve read that - it’s good :+1:

I saw Kraftwerk at Tribal Gathering in 1997. I didn’t really know their music well and didn’t own any of their albums. From the moment they set foot on stage I was mesmerised. Their music and light show were breathtaking. Their music manages to be striking and melancholy. Dark and light. Mysterious and surprising. What a band. What a back catalogue Years ahead of their time, so much so much of it sounds fresh today. RIP Florian

I’m a few chapters into this. It’s… alright. Amazing music, but by their very nature I’m just not sure they make great subjects for an autobiography. Will report back when I finish it!

Numbers will always be my favourite track of theirs. This video gives me chills. Love it.

Stuck the 3-D box on this morning and man Autobahn is a beautiful piece of work. And then the Kometenmelodie pieces. Ridiculous stuff. So good. 7 discs to go!

I’ve always been a big fan of Europe endless. Around the time I got into them a group of us decided to go on holiday and combine with a gig. We ended up in Munich watching Muse (friend was an enormous fan). But we drove there and listened to loads of Kraftwerk driving through Germany. Europe endless is my memory of that trip

someone on 6music yesterday said they brought soul to electronic music. think they said or meant the first to do that, which would be quite whitewashy, with soul acts making electronic music at the same time.

I can’t imagine that meant soul as in soul music though.

I’m not sure what you mean.
there was soul music that was also electronic music (programmed beats/ keyboards) before Kraftwerk, so thought it was off for them to say that.

By “soul” they probably weren’t referring to sould music, but rather it having life/humanity/whatever. Just a bad choice of expressing it using a word which is also a genre of music, and one which was also using electronics in a way which gave more human-like expression (probably to the degree that it gets overlooked as electronic music)

Agree, I think it would be reading way too much into it to go after a description which is used quite a lot. They brought a sound of emotion into machines which are seen as clinical.
