I’ve not had an injection for so long but I remember them being a pretty fun experience as a child. so I’m going to go get the flu jab to see what they feel like as an adult.

Not at risk but live with at risk person (a toddler).

I’m not health shaming, come on now. I’m explaining why I do it and why I think others should too - as many, including yourself have asked in this thread why you should.

It is shaming 100%. It’s heavily implied that people that don’t do X and Y are just being very selfish cause it’s not a big deal to do those things.

There are many many factors why people can’t/don’t do either.

Ok don’t do it then!

What age do kids get the flu jab? My sister just had a baby and we’re gonna hang out at Christmas which feels like a powder keg for flu.

Probably some kind of egg allergy - you can get egg free versions if you’re allergic.

I think laelfy has been pretty restrained tbh.

It must really irk to be part of a body of work curated by thousands of hard working scientists who dedicate their lives to trying to control and curb horrific life changing and life ending diseases, to read some of the stuff on here. Obviously in an ideal world it would be available to everybody, but that’s not the world we live in rn. So those who are most at risk are offered the resource, and for the price of a coffee and a bun in starbucks the rest of us can too. Those who genuinely cannot afford it and who are worried about their health would, I am virtually certain, be able to persuade their GP to give them one. Although if those who can afford to be vaccinated are getting done, then the risk to everybody else (including vulnerable people who qualify for a free jab but who for whatever reason refuse to be vaxed) falls.

Don’t shame people or try to make them feel guilty then!

Its like wearing a crash helmet, you don’t have to, you don’t intend to crash and its not 100% going to save your life BUT if you do crash and hurt yourself it is likely it will not be so bad with a helmet and if you were not wearing a helmet you will be wearing a helmet the next times you ride! It also makes the roads safer for everyone. So if you can why not save yourself the journey of finding out the hard way like Lonzy did?

I don’t think they can get the vaccine until 6m, and the nasal one isn’t suitable for under 2. Yet another reason for everybody else who can afford it to get vaccinated to reduce the risk of killing little babies.

Except the efficacy of cycling helmets is a pretty big can of worms not worth opening itt.

Fwiw I’ve learned a heap from this thread and appreciate the time people have put into it. Had never considered a flu jab before, will probs get one next week

just slightly skeptical of applying CDC guidance from a country with private healthcare and health insurance to the UK? Dunno could be wrong. I can read primary references mate I have an MSc!
Also, I’m not really disputing anything other than the nhs guidance being odd and the reasoning behind it

I’m sorry you feel like I’ve been trying to shame you - I have strong thoughts on this subject but if you have your own reasons not to get it then that is completely fine.

I’m quite tired of this ‘shaming’ accusation. It’s not like anybody is body shaming or anything like that. If calling out ignorance is shaming then I’m all for it.

For fucks sake.
I’m not alone in this so don’t call my ignorant.

It may well be, I’m just speculating and in this particular vaccine there’s an alternative option. Probably if you have no history of egg allergy then it might not be that.

i’ve nothing against getting one, just thought it was weird people thought it was commonly accepted that everyone should get one, not least because the nhs doesn’t even recommend getting one
