Am I not allowed to dislike them?

If anything you should be more defensive of your son(s)!

Just one son!

i do actually want to like them in some ways - not enough younguns paying tribute to the Pogues.

Still true imho

New album has already been mixed! Quite enjoying the rate they’re putting stuff out, hope it’s as good as the last two

Guess there was nothing better to do with the lack of touring

They said on the Reddit AMA that the album sounds like they’ve all had a big sleep and recovered from the non-stop touring of the last few years (apologies if this is in the article too), gently indicating it might be less dead-eyed than the last…

I think something ever so slightly sunnier would be a great vibe from them - the songwriting on Hero’s Death was much improved, but you could hear the bags under their eyes, so hopefully that’s true.

Dead happy we might be getting a new single in June.

i really liked that part of it, how it was both loud and punchy, yet drowsy and flat

but I really enjoy their straightforward melodic ballads plenty as it is, so I’ll take something more upbeat happily

So I guess the next one based on their current trajectory will sound like this

Wouldnt complain at that. Underrated album

But annoyed no one seems to have got this reference though

That they’re following the Horrors’ trajectory or something else?

Aye that’s about the size of it

Idk if no-one’s got it or more it’s no-one’s outraged because it’s not really that damning a thing to say?

(I did get it and my response was more along the lines of “I think that’s more of a compliment than you think it is”)

Oh it wasn’t meant to be damming I like Skying as an album

Similarities aside I think Primary Colours is considerably better than A Hero’s Death (I was listening to the former at the weekend and had forgotten just how excellent it is). Skying is a similar level in my book so it would be another big leap in quality for Fontaines

I liked their answer to ‘How do you break into the Dublin music scene?’

A:In terms of advice I’d say form a band with people you want to spend more time with. And listen to the strokes a lot. that’s all we ever did really
