been surprised how big they’ve gotten so quickly, there are better bands in Ireland that haven’t had a leg up from BIMM, however they’re pretty decent and have been growing on me after not quite getting the fuss initially. will be checking the album out later.

I’ll file this band alongside Idles. Category: Really?

(on the plus side they’ve made British music journalists look across the water for the first time in a while to find more stuff like them. i think even when Girl Band broke through they were considered too unique to bother with any of that)

Are they from BIMM? Fuck’s SAKE

I had just assumed they were already but googled before posting and yeah

And, of course, Idles have a link to BIMM. Will listen to the Fontaines DC album on the way to the Fixity album launch.

I heard apparently Fontaines, The Murder Capital and Just Mustard share a PR company who have been promoting them as a package deal to UK media as part of some new Irish music scene that’s happening. It’s maybe a bit cynical but at the same time I do like all three of those bands…

Murder Capital are BIMM heads too, and they share rehearsal space with Fontaines apparently.

Personally think The Murder Capital might have more about them in the long run - frontman has some presence live and they’re less obviously wrapped up in the “Dublin” identity

I knew The Murder Capital were very much BIMM - doing an Irish headline tour before even releasing a single, all dressing like they’re in the Easter Rising Re-enactment Society, and their live show felt a bit stage-managed when I saw them - but they are decent and have potential.

Interesting about Just Mustard as I had noticed them supporting them both/being mentioned alongside them a lot recently, however they are genuinely great (best band of the 3 easily) and I’m very happy to see them get that exposure. they also feel a lot more genuine and organic.

Don’t begrudge any band a bit of PR really and hope they all do well. I think the sort of BIMM fast-track just always feels a little jarring in what’s a mostly fairly grassroots sort of scene.

I’d not listened to Just Mustard before seeing them mentioned here but they’re fantastic, right up my street.

Great live, definitely see them if you can

Listened to it a lot this weekend. Solid album imo. Good live band too.

Really enjoying this album. Right up my street.

Very Ikara Colt innit

Genuine question - why is that bad? Sorry I don’t understand.

Don’t like them, mind. But love Idles so god knows eh.

Enjoying this on first listen. Way better than Idles imo

BIMM is like the Irish Brit School I suppose. I tend to have zero time for any of the bands coming out of the program. They’re quite proficient but are rigid and boring for the most part. I’ll take a crack at the Fontanies album this week but I’m not looking forward to it.

Joke answer: West Brits?
Real answer: :face_vomiting:

Just hearing them for the first time today, pretty into it. Thought I’d check if they were touring and it seems I just missed them at King Tuts (200 capacity) yesterday but they’re in to play SWG3 (2000 capacity??) in November - that’s a pretty ambitious leap up, unless I just haven’t been following how popular they really are.
