List invalid because it doesn’t have Good Grief or Hey, Johnny Park! on it.

The first two albums are 100% perfect, there isn’t a second wasted and you can tell every single hit of the drums was carefully thought out. TNLTL is pretty much right up there with them and Wasting Light is really good too (White Limo especially).

The other albums are fine and certainly have their moments, but I think as time went on there were diminishing returns. I think he started relying a bit too much on screaming for the sake of screaming (compare it to the way he used screaming bits to elevate the songs on The Colour and the Shape - that was perfectly done and one of the best consistent uses of screaming on an album). And post TNLTL the production got a bit too artificial / processed / farty, for the lack of a better description.

more interesting than the Foo Fighters: this definition of ‘foo’

jargon. /foo/ A sample name for absolutely anything, especially programs and files (especially scratch files). First on the standard list of metasyntactic variables used in syntax examples. See also bar, baz, qux, quux, corge, grault, garply, waldo, fred, plugh, xyzzy, thud. The etymology of “foo” is obscure.

100% perfect!

Haha they are! I mean they’re not The Moon and Antarctica or OKComputer, but they’re not supposed to be - for what they’re meant to be they’re perfectly done. I think the success that the band has had with their lesser, more same-y output has tainted people’s opinions of those first two.

I will listen to these to determine if they are damning omissions or you are just wrong.

Just how true is all of this? Read it a few times on here but never seen it mentioned anywhere else.

AFAIK it’s not true. I think various bandmembers have held these views though and the band have allowed themselves to be associated with them via unwisely playing gigs in support of them or something. (I haven’t bothered Googling, just off the top of my head.)

I have added Good Grief to the play list.

Hey, Johnny Park! is a bit MOR US Rock for me. Nice opening riffage but not a great song, I don’t think.

First album and its b-sides are excellent! Still gets a semi-regular airing in our house/car! The rest of their albums all have their moments too.

^ Good Grief is a tune!

But is it as much of a tune as:

or

(The answer is no.)

Yeah, pretty much this. There was something posted on here a while ago about Taylor Hawkins might have read an anti-vaccination book about 20 years ago but I made up the rest of it.

There was that weird AIDS thing too, wasn’t there? Isn’t one of the (former?) members’ wife a believer in some crazy new-age thing about how anti-AIDS drugs are actually giving people AIDS? Again, I don’t want to bother Googling here.

A quick google search reveals that to be correct. He believes HIV does not lead to AIDS.
