If I never ate anything past its use-by date I’d waste so much food. I don’t mess with meat (that’s what a freezer is for) but:
- veg is fine until it goes / soft / black / whatever
- cheese is fine until it goes blue (trickier with blue cheese admittedly)
- other dairy varies. If it’s not been open long and it smells alright then yeah, go for it.
Milk can be a bit iffy but then we get through about 4 pints every day and a half in our family anyway. Bread suffers past its sell-by date but you can use it for toast / breadcrumbs.
