Willy should get a new deal. No chance of the other five staying. Of those five, Sagna would be the one most deserving of another year, but only as a backup. There are good players coming through in some of these positions now. There are four players at U16 or U18 level who are as good as Navas (Sancho, Brahim, Foden, Poveda). The first of those is physically ready. The other may be a while off, but there has to be clear routes through or there’s no point having a great academy.

Main reason, or second to underperformance, is contract ammortisation, though. City could replace most of these players with £30m/£40m younger alternatives and actually improve the books given the high salaries some of them are on. Those five - Toure, Navas, Zabaleta, Sagna and Clichy - must all be on anywhere between £75k and £200k (Toure) a week.

found out the other day that D’Margio Wright-Phillips is Shaun Wright-Phillips’ SON.

Honestly thought it was his brother.

Aye, that made me dead angry. I shouldn’t be about to be seeing a fucking third generation player yet.

sergio ramos is only 31. wtf.

#footballisback!!!

Meant to be quite good as well. Central-midfielder, apparently. Think he’s 16, so not so mad to suggest he could play in the Premier League within twenty years of his grandad.

He’s been in and out of the squad all season (playing about 10 mins).

I think Jose would rather play Rooney at cb than a youngster

United’s current defensive situation is weird. Four good but not great centre-halves who’ve all shown spells of excellent form, there or at their previous club in Bailly’s case, but no signs of a real partnership. Rojo, possibly their best centre-half this season, no?, most suited to playing with…Jones, who seems to constantly pick up niggling injuries. Bailly, probably the most viable long-term option, a bit too erratic to play with Rojo or Smalling. Smalling, their best centre-half a season or too ago, now fourth choice. Weird puzzle to solve. Surely Bailly long-term, but don’t know if they’ve got the partner there for him to flourish, or will get away with not having a more defensively-minded right back. Rojo’s looked like a fish out of water at left-back whenever i’ve seen him. Lots of square pegs. Preferable to having no fit, capable defenders, like at City bar Stones…but as i say, a bit of a puzzle.

Bailly and someone else long-term, Rojo has shown he’s worth keeping around as long as he goes nowhere near LB, Smalling is shite and I reckon Jones has kicked his last ball for Utd now.

Tuanzebe is a proper prospect and will probably get a chance between now and the end of the season now, Giminez or Varane to come in in the summer probs.

Mourinho’s recent foray into a back three throws the cat amongst the pigeons as well, Rojo as the left sided, Bailly as the right sided and someone new in the middle makes sense in that case but we’ll need a long-term Valencia replacement and a LWB to make that work.
