I enjoy references to the 1990s.

Are Hefner classed as forgotten? A classic band from this era:

Bonuses points for a fan-made video with pictures of cats.

Probably not forgotten (not by me anyway, big fan of Darren’s solo stuff) but still the same era.

One of the many new radioheads

Because of Lockdown, I have yet to meet my niece, Alis, but when I do I can’t wait to ask her ‘Alis, what’s the matter?’ every single time she cries.

First time I ever saw mclusky was with Helen Love and Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi. Good times.

Anyway,

I saw these live once, they were much better than expected.

I love this song, dreadful lyrics and sub-Muse basslines and all

Bionic is a forgotten classic but this song sounds like Stand Inside Your Love by the Smashing Pumpkins…

Half of the band were British/Irish and they were London based.

Anet Mook the singer was from The Netherlands I think. Great band though, the second album would have been so good.

Yeah and the guitarist too I think.

Anyone else remember the Monsoon Bassoon?

Choon. Didn’t make the association with Sylvia Plath at the time as… I hadn’t heard of her

Yes, loved this when it came out on 7’ but weirdly never got the album.

I think one of them was in the cardiacs and is now part of the utopia string with Steve Davis!

Yeah, Kavus Torabi. He’s been in Guapo and Gong too.

Brilliant band.

Angelica - the singer’s now in The Lovely Eggs

Dunno where else to post this, but was looking for Jetplane Landing on Spotify the other week and noticed that the entire Smalltown America catalogue has gone.

Turns out the label shut down (4 years after last releasing anything) tail end of last year

Sad that this seems to have gone unnoticed given how important it/JPL were in underground UK music in the mid 00s. There’s a bunch of records I have a lot of nostalgic affection for that are now just unavailable.

(Disclosure, I was involved in running the label for a number of years in the mid/late 00s when it was based in London)

Since this thread has been re-awoken and I missed it first time round… I dug out my ‘record collection’ yesterday. It’s only got 6 records in it and rarely sees the light of day because I’ve never actually had my own working record player (I did own a broken one at one point which was used a guitar amp (can confirm record players make terrible guitar amps btw)). Should also clarify that the records I own are not great – one of them seemingly came free with Rice Krispies.

Anyway, in the collection was this by The Driven from 1996. Not sure if anyone will remember them…including me if I’m honest.

… and, perhaps stretching the timescales slightly, I remember enjoying a fair bit of Dub War stuff. This one from 1995.

Best 90s song that no one has heard, right here. I have this on a running playlist and always do a little sprint when the chorus kicks in.

Saw Dub War at Nottingham Rock City, and got a couple of records by them I think.
