Dunno where else to post this, but was looking for Jetplane Landing on Spotify the other week and noticed that the entire Smalltown America catalogue has gone.

Turns out the label shut down (4 years after last releasing anything) tail end of last year

Sad that this seems to have gone unnoticed given how important it/JPL were in underground UK music in the mid 00s. There’s a bunch of records I have a lot of nostalgic affection for that are now just unavailable.

(Disclosure, I was involved in running the label for a number of years in the mid/late 00s when it was based in London)

Since this thread has been re-awoken and I missed it first time round… I dug out my ‘record collection’ yesterday. It’s only got 6 records in it and rarely sees the light of day because I’ve never actually had my own working record player (I did own a broken one at one point which was used a guitar amp (can confirm record players make terrible guitar amps btw)). Should also clarify that the records I own are not great – one of them seemingly came free with Rice Krispies.

Anyway, in the collection was this by The Driven from 1996. Not sure if anyone will remember them…including me if I’m honest.

… and, perhaps stretching the timescales slightly, I remember enjoying a fair bit of Dub War stuff. This one from 1995.

That’s a shame, so many brilliant bands on Smalltown America that helped shape my music taste. Jetplane were always my favourite, Backlash Cop and Don’t Try were both albums of the year for me when they came out. Had a check and it looks like JPL back catalogue has vanished from bandcamp as well, boo. :frowning:
