Fossils #historyweek

Are there more, do you reckon? Or have most been found?
Used to think there’d be a lot more fossils, would spend hours digging in the garden when I was a child and I never found one fossil. Might get back into digging and try and find one.

Fossil chat encouraged!

Only 3% of fossils are believed to have been found.

Jeez, I feel even more of a failure now

I just made that up but it sounds like it could be something that’s true.

Fossils are actually just rocks, aren’t they. Like, in a literal sense, they’ve calcified or whatever.

Oil and coal and peat and stuff are fossils in a way, aren’t they. I don’t know.

One day, someone will find the last one but we won’t know it’s the last one and people will keep digging pointlessly for decades afterwards. Maybe that day has already been.

I remember reading about 15 years ago that we were actually in the middle of the golden age of fossil discovery. Like loads and loads of new dinosaurs have been discovered this century and our understanding of prehistoric life has increased exponentially. but no-one talks about it that much cos they’re all just dinosaurs that looked a bit like T-rex, diplodocus etc, don’t have the same cut through.
