Frank Zappa

Listened to Weasels Ripped My Flesh tonight, twice. Dude was a musical genius. It’s not his best but damn, that is one fine album.

I can only imagine what he would have been made of the current political situation within the U.S, we sorely need the modern equivalence of a Frank Zappa/Hunter S Thompson mash-up to educate the blind masses.

The current crop of musicians/artists are rather woeful and I imagine they’re worried about the financial hit/political fallout if they speak up.

Never knowingly listened to any of his music, but I read Earth to Moon, his daughter’s memoir, earlier this year and thought it was ace. Big recommend

I’m sure that he’s worth listening to but that’s some baaaaaad cover art

Always conflicted on Zappa. Captain Beefheart has been one of my favourite musicians since my teenage years so it would stand to reason I would also like Zappa but his sense of humour really rubs me up the wrong way.

I love Hot Rats, it feels like a perfect balance between his rock side and his experimental side.Peaches En Regalia is an all timer. Uncle Remus is maybe my favourite though, that guitar playing…oof

I think the best albums are the ones with the least amount of comedy.

When I was 10 I thought Don’t You Eat That Yellow Snow was just about the funniest thing I’d ever heard.

Not the kind of thing I listen to much as I find the frenetic musicianship quite tiring.

and zero comedy skits

Use to absolutely rinse apostrophe, not listened to it in years

I like(d) him and sorta respect the work but… not aged well has it :grimacing:

It’s not so much that Zappa has aged poorly. But no one would know how to listen and react to his music in this day and age.

Admittedly it did attract controversy back in 1979 when it was originally released.
