Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Original lineup and first performance in 36 years and they did one song!?!

What a song though!

Why is he just doing backing vocals? Wouldn’t he normally be on an instrument?

Dont think so, he was always a dancer/backing singer I think

I really hope this leads to a tour/festival dates!

It’ll be the 40th anniversary of ‘Welcome to the Pleasuredome’ next year - maybe they’ll be able to bury the hatchet long enough for a payday.

I wouldn’t mind that on vinyl Tbf

Welcome To The Pleasuredome is one of the absolute hardest albums of all time

2nd band I ever saw live (1985).

Two Tribes was a whole 10 months after Relax and those two singles shook up the Charts like nothing I’d ever seen at that time. They personified the 80’s and took 80’s Pop in a new direction. Two tribes revived Relax and they dominated the Charts. I bought every version of those two songs going at the time. The New York Remix of Relax is an all-time great Pop song, accessible, catchy, dirty, fun, powerful.

I bought Welcome To The Pleasure Dome (the album) day of release with some limited poster from HMV in New Street. The title track is still my go to track to test out new speakers / headphones, the production is incredible. The album does fall a little flat though, it’s too long and features some not so great songs.

I never knew Born To Run was a cover for a good few months. It would be good to see them back in some capacity.

They have an insta page. In the bio the link takes you to a bbc version of the Eurovision performance and a mailing list to keep you updated on FGTH so surely something is planned for the future?

If you have FB the video is on their official FB page

FGTH were absolutely huge for about a year, ridiculous numbers of singles sold. The hype for Pleasuredome was massive and the album, whilst having the odd lull here and there, is a real 80s classic

The second album was pretty shit though

It’s interesting (to me at least) how many pop artists in the 80s were massive for a year or two or maybe three years and then they’d suddenly have a massive drop off where they’d struggle to get in the top 40. There are obvious exceptions like Madonna but it does seem easier to maintain a successful career these days

The Power Of Love sometimes gets overlooked because of the 2 juggernauts that came before it, but it is one of the most beautiful songs ever made.

And as @midnightpunk says, the production on the Welcome To The Pleasuredome song is incredible!

“Sorry, I left me card at home”
“And you’re late as well, that’s three times in a row, if you’re late again a supervisor says we’re gonna put you on daily signing”

HA!

Depeche Mode, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys all had longevity but yeah there were a lot of one or two album artists too.

But even PSB it happened to to some extent. They had three #1s and a 2 in 1987/88 and then released Domino Dancing in late 88 which just about got in the top 10 and two years later Being Boring is getting to #33 or whatever

Don’t think it’s a coincidence that this was the only song they did at the reunion ‘gig’. Probably got a tour lined up and this was a nice quick way to test the waters/build some hype.

They always seemed like a good bunch of lads and think their pretty confrontational queerness is more than deserving of a bit of a retrospective love and some Guardian think pieces. Lots of artists working today wouldn’t have been able to do what they do were it not for this lot, not just sonically but aesthetically/visually.

Yeah, it was but I still really like the singles Rage Hard and Warriors Of The Wasteland.

Let’s not forget how influential Trevor Horn was in creating their sound. Holly Johnson is a great vocalist too. What a powerful voice!
